4 Ways to Stop Ongoing Hair Loss During the Holidays

The holidays should be filled with fun and excitement, but hair loss can really put a dampener on your holidays. Hair loss is one of the season’s unwanted gifts for many people. Some might even avoid social gatherings where they can’t wear a hat.

The good news is, hair loss doesn’t have to be permanent and doesn’t always require surgery! At Physician’s Hair Institute, we offer nonsurgical options to manage hair loss so you can enjoy the holidays like everybody else.

Propecia (Generic Name: Finasteride)

Propecia is an FDA-approved prescription medication for treating male pattern hair loss or androgenic alopecia. It contains finasteride and works by preventing the conversion of testosterone to DHT, the hormone that shrinks your hair follicles resulting in premature hair loss.

By decreasing DHT levels, Propecia can revive the miniaturized hair follicles in your scalp and stimulate hair regrowth. The results of two year-long medical trials reveal that over 85% of men have their hair loss stabilized or improved by using Propecia or 66% regrow an average of 10% more hair in areas where thinning is observed.

Rogaine (Generic Name: Minoxidil)

In addition to Propecia, the only other FDA-approved medication for treating hair loss is Rogaine.

Rogaine is a topical medication approved by the FDA to treat pattern baldness and the only FDA-approved topical medication for female pattern hair loss. It’s applied to the scalp once or twice daily, currently available as a 2% liquid, 5% liquid, and 5% foam.

Rogaine works by counteracting the follicle-shrinking effects of DHT by dilating blood vessels that nourish the hair follicles in the scalp. This way, your hair follicles are preserved or even revived.

Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP is a non-invasive treatment for stimulating hair regrowth. PRP uses the patient’s blood to collect high concentrations of growth factors that revive the hair follicles.

It’s safe, effective, and has no downtime so you can get back to your holiday preparations asap while enjoying the benefits of PRP!

Dr. Keene’s protocol is to start with 3 treatments scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart. Typically, patients will see visible results within 6 months of getting PRP.

Scalp Micropigmentation

SMP is an advanced hair restoration technique that replicates the appearance of  fuller hair without surgery. It involves using a specialized device to create microdots on your scalp that give the illusion of a fresh buzz cut or fuller hair.

The results of SMP are remarkably natural which is why many patients in Arizona get this treatment at our clinic!

SMP is ideal for patients who prefer a solution that does not require daily attention. This is also an excellent option for camouflaging scars from your FUT hair transplant.
